The National Park Service is seeking applications from individuals and groups interested in performing at National Christmas Tree throughout December in the Ellipse in President’s Park. Applications will be accepted through Sept. 30, 2017. From Wednesday, Dec. 6 through Thursday, Dec. 21, musical entertainment featuring performances by volunteer choirs, bands and dancers will be held nightly on the Ellipse stage. There will be no performances held on Dec. 11 or 18.
Generally, performances run Tuesday through Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 8 p.m. More information and the application form is available at nps.gov/whho/planyourvisit/national_christmas_tree_music_program. Applications must be submitted via fax or e-mail and received by 11:59 p.m. on Sept 30 to be considered.
Family friendly performances must be holiday themed and no more than 30 minutes long. The stage (30 feet wide by 21 feet deep) is not covered and is exposed to the elements. Groups must be under 100. A professional sound technician is available to assist with set up before the performance. They provide the music equipment including hard-wired microphones and stands, speakers and amplifiers and a piano. Music stands, chairs and risers are also available for performers.
