Meetings have been scheduled between DGS and community stakeholders as well as the wider community about plans for the Eastern Market Metro Plaza (EMMP) Park.
The Eastern Market Metro Plaza Advisory Team (EMMPAT), composed of representatives of business organizations and the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6B meets Jan. 29. Community meetings are scheduled for Feb. 6 and April 3.
DGS will release a new concept submission later this week. That concept will be available on the DGS project website.
The project is moving forward after nearly a decade of community work reimagining the plaza that surrounds Eastern Market Metro Station, located at Pennsylvania Ave. SE between Seventh and Eighth Streets SE.
Councilmember Charles Allen (D-Ward 6) secured a total investment of $7.1 million for the project over the last two budget cycles, paving the way for Department of General Services (DGS) to begin the design-build process. In September, construction company Keystone Plus and architects Moya Design Partners were selected to join the Design Build Team (DBT). The goal is to finalize drawings for permitting by the end of the winter, allowing construction to begin in August or September of 2019.
In early December, DGS and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) participated in meetings with the Eastern Market Metro Plaza Advisory Team (EMMPAT) and with the community to discuss designs for the project.
The first two EMMPAT meetings were closed to the public. Attendance at the January 29th meeting, which will be held at 9 a.m. at the Hill Center (921 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) will be open to the public. However, participation at these meetings will be limited to EMMPAT members.
Public participation is welcomed at community meetings. Two have been scheduled by DGS for Wednesday, Feb. 6 and Wednesday, April 2. Both will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Eastern Market North Hall (Seventh Street and North Carolina Avenue SE).
