The cafe is open again at the former Port City Java. The 7th Street Hill Cafe (701 North Carolina Ave. SE) opened Thursday, July 11 after a closure of about a month. The cafe is located at the corner of North Carolina Avenue and Seventh Street SE, right across from the North Hall of Eastern Market.

The cafe closed on June 3rd for what was planned to be a few days of renovations. It reopened more than a month later with new flooring and a fresh coat of paint, although with familiar pieces of indoor and outdoor furniture.

The renovations come after the lease on the business changed hands within the extended family of the owners. The new owners decided to move away from the Port City Java franchise, re-branding their independent cafe.

7th Street Hill Cafe has no relationship with the Hill Cafe at 101 15th St. NE.

Although management has changed, they have retained most of the former staff. You’ll also still be able to find many of your favorite items. Much of the menu has been retained, with the addition of smoothie flavors and slushies as well as breakfast items. New are lunch menu items, including Italian Veggie and Chicken Pesto Wraps, as well as Turkey with cheese or apple on Brioche, in addition to yogurt parfait and salads.

7th Street Hill Cafe is open Monday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reach them at 202-544-7770.
