Police Investigate Two Saturday Shootings in Southwest

Weekend Crime Blotter

400

Police are investigating a shooting that took place on the 1400 block of Half St. SW late Saturday night.

Officers were called to the area with reports of gun shots. When they arrived, they found multiple shell casings and damage to a parked vehicle.

A few minutes later, they investigated reports of a gunshot on the other side of King Greenleaf Recreation Center. Officers went to the 200 block of N Street SW, where they found a man suffering a gunshot wound to the hand.

He was transported to a hospital for further treatment. The victim did not provide a usable suspect description.

Later Saturday night, another man checked into the hospital with a non-threatening gunshot wound.  That victim said he had been on the scene of the 1400 Half Street SW shooting, but did not give any further information.

During the course of the investigation, officers observed a handgun in a vehicle parked in the area of the 200 block of N Street SW. In addition to the handgun, which was loaded with a high-capacity magazine, officers found narcotics in the car. Police are investigating the connection between the firearm and the shootings, but no arrests have yet been made.

The shootings took place a day after the body of a sixteen-year-old Southeast man was found a block north of these shootings, on the 200 block of M Street SW.

These incidents are actively under investigation by First District Detectives.  If you have any information about either shooting, please contact the First District Detectives at (202) 299-2025, or the Metropolitan Police Department’s Command Information Center at (202) 727-9099.
