A local business is trying to help other businesses stay afloat during hard times, by helping to flage those who are open.
Minuteman Press (555 New Jersey Ave. NW) is offering free banners to local businesses in the DC area. “We know how important these materials are, since we’re in the printing business,” said Minuteman Press owner Mark Calis.
The printer has been in the same location for 35 years, Calis said, and has been through 9/11, the recession and the internet boom. “Never have we seen business drop like this,” Calis said.
Calis said that every dollar counts right now as businesses try to keep themselves and their employees afloat. His employees are still coming in, he said.
Printing is an essential business. Minuteman employee Hannah said that while she deals with the public daily, there’s a lot fewer people walking in these days. She said she is fine with coming in to work to provide printing services to teachers and health professionals. “I would rather help in whatever way I can,” she said.
Some of the material they are working on is educational, including lesson plans and worksheets. Some is related to the Coronavirus, she said, including pamphets on how to prevent transmission and instructions on how to properly wash hands.
While they still have some work coming in, Calis said the business has been decimated by the shutdown. “This is so incredible, what we’re all going through,” he said. “We want to make it through, and we want to help others make it through as well.”
District businesses can request one 3 foot by 4 foot banner with grommets per location, and must pick up in store. Operators can order via email at email@example.com. Orders should include:
- Name and location of business
- Phone number
- Indicate Carry-Out, Delivery or Curbside Service
- A high-resolution logo, if desired
